Tired Boys!!

Is it just me or are all school kids exhausted at this time of year???

Term 4 seems to bring more tears, tantrums and sleep ins. They all just seem to be compltely and utterly exhausted.

This is Ethan's first year of school and he really has been a little sponge and the effect that has had on him is definately starting to show. This week will be a hard one for my tired and exhausted little guy, his school has a week of swimming lessons. So it should be an interesting week.

How are your kids holding up at this time of year?? Are they tired too or is it just mine??

Marathon Monday - Week 11

I am very excited that I only have two weeks to go of until I reach my 1st goal!!!

The goal for last week was to run 37km and I was only 1km short. Which I thought was pretty good considering Friday, Saturday and Sunday were all above 30 degrees.

This weeks runs will have to either happening the morning or in the early evening as this week the forcast is all days above 30 degrees and thursday we are expecting 39!!!! With night only getting down to 15 degrees.

The aim for this week is to not die of dehyration and run 38km. Fingers crossed people.

I have a confession to make!!!!

Hi there, my name is Erika and I am addicted to American TV programs!!!

Yes people this is a serious problem!!! I downlaod a whole heap of shows each week as I cant wait for them to come on Aussie TV.

Some of the shows I am currently addicted to include Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Hart of Dixie and Revenge. And that is just a few!!!

My 'problem' has definately decoe worse since I have been an umeployed, stay at home mum with all my children at school.

So I ask you all do you have any tips to help me get over this addiction or do I just give in to it? If so, do you have any recommendations of shows I should add to the list???

Marathon Monday - Week 10

Why hello there.

Week 10 of first 12 weeks and I am happy to report that I ran 36km.

With only 2 weeks left until I reach my first goal I am very proud of myself.

I am however really struggling to understand how I haven't lost any weight and had my Baba ask me if I was pregnant the other day. So while I am feeling really good about how my running is going I am getting rather depressed about the fact that I apparently now look pregnant!! :( (Which I'm not btw)

This week's running goal is a total of 37km, so let's get running.

Sick kids

This week for me started with the mother of all trantrums from my 11 year old. He is grounded for a week as a consequence.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning he woke up vomitting, he spent Tuesday at home from school sleeping on the couch. Tuesday afternoon my youngest told me that his chores were making him feel sick and being the wonderful mother I am I thought he was just trying to get out of his chores, until he came running into the house and vomitted all over the toilet.

He spent Tuesday night vomitting and sleeping most of Wednesday morning. By the time the other two boys got home from school wednesday he was right as rain.

My middle son always surprises me. He is the one you would think would be sick everytime something is going around but is always the one that never gets sick.

He was born 8 weeks early at 32 weeks and now has the most amazing ammune system. His doctors are always surprised by it too.

Such a horrible feeling when your children are sick and there is nothing you can do to help them. But I am happy to say we have now left spew town and hope to not be returning for a very long time.

Marathon Monday - Week 8 & 9

I am very happy to report that after the 32.2kms I ran last week my leg is feeling fantastic.

Last weeks goal was 32.2km and I am excited to say I ran a total of 33km.

This week in the training program is supposed to include a 10km race on Sunday instead of the long run so the total kilometres this week is only 30.5km, but since there aren't any on this weekend in Adelaide I will just follow the program and run my own little race against myself and try to beat my PB for the 10km I ran a few weeks ago.

Week 9 for me was not so successful. I thought that cause my husband had the week off that he would take the kids to school and I could go out for my run first thing but I think that happened once. I actually barely ran last week, which I am really disappointed about. The aim of week 10 is to stick to my plan and hopefully run a few extra kilometers to make up for the lack of running last week.

Week 10's goal is 35.3km so fingers crossed that I can run them all.

Have a lovely week everyone.

Marathon Monday - Week 7

Hello again, Today's Marathon Monday will be short and sweet.

I only ran a total of 12.5km last week as my leg was still playing up a little. So I spent most of the week resting it. I am fairly sure that it is back to normal now after the rest but we will know for sure after the week of full running.

So this week there is a total of 32.2km to run and I am looking forward to getting back into it. Let's hope my leg holds up and all it needed was a little rest. Fingers crossed.

See you all soon

Marathon Monday - Week 6

Good Morning Everyone, hope you have all had a wonderful week with lots of moving!

I am very excited to be starting week 7! There are a couple of reasons, the first being that week 7 means that I am official half way through the 12 weeks of my Half Marathon training!! Secondly, because it is the second of my goals!

Week 6 went well but could have been better. I did all the km's for the week but I have had a really sore leg and am taking an extra rest day this week to try to rest it a little. If it's still not right by the end of the this week a trip to the doctors is definately on the cards.

Week 7 sees the distances increase again. So this week will be a total of 30.7km with the long run on Sunday being 11.5km.

So I hope you all have a great week and get outside and get moving!

Marathon Monday - Week 5

Well hello there......

I made it through my run yesterday and I feel amazing!!!! I am quite proud of myself! 5 weeks of running and I finished my first 10km race!! WOW!!!

I did however, come to realise just how much work I still have left to do if I am going to run in a half marathon event. But it has just made me so much more excited and determined to work hard to do it and to do it well.

Unfortunately, these are the only photos I have as I went to the race by myself and had no one to take photos of me.

My running program for this week only has a total of 21km, so from here on out I plan on sticking to the training exactly!!!

I hope everyone have a great week!! Don't forget to get outside and move!!!

Marathon Monday - Week 4

Happy Monday Everyone!

I am very excited because this week is my first race. Sunday I will run 10km, it's the first of my goals. I am very excited and nervous to be at this point already!!

Last week I barely ran at all beacuse my husband was away for the week, I am feeeling even more nervous as I don't think I have had the ideal lead up to my first official run.

So this week I don't have a plan. I am just going to run Tues-Fri and have Saturday as a rest day before Sunday!! Ok so that sounded like a plan didn't it??

So wish me luck and if your in Adelaide and feel like a drive, see you at McLaren Vale!!

Thursday 4 October 2012

I am freaking out!!!

I recieved an envelope in the mail yesterday and I was excited and scared to death at the same time!

It was my race number for the McLaren Vale event that I had registered for.

My freaking out may be compounded by the fact that my husband is away for the week and when he's away I don't sleep properly and him being away means it's just me and the kids and it's school holidays so there has been NO running!

I know, NO running in a week when I really need to be running as many kilometres as possible!

So I am freaking out.

I know shouldn't be, I know I have this covered but I'm still freaking out!

I have run further than 10km before, I have trained really hard up until this week, I am fitter than I expected to be by now and I have the support of my husband and the boys. But still I freak out!

All I can think about is running twice a day next week when the kids go back to school but my better judgement tells me that over training before an event is a really bad move, your supposed to taper off not double your running.

The other reason I think I am so nervous and freaking out so much is that this is the first of my mini goals on the way to THE big one.....The Marathon......

I have only been training properly for about a month so I wasn't expecting to get to this first goal quite so soon but having said that the fact I am at here so soon gives me a new confidence that I can actually do this (the marathon) and it's not going to beat me!

So enough ranting for one day, I'm off to get ready to take these kids to St Kilda playground for the day.

It's a beautiful day here, hope you enjoy your day as much as we are going to!!

Marathon Monday - Week 3

Sorry this is a day late but yesterday was a public holiday here in Adelaide and I spent the morning with my oldest son, my best friend and her daughter at Ikea, then in the afternoon we took all the kids to the park as the weather was beautiful.
ANYWAY......
I am feeling fantastic! Running this time around has been great. Although I haven't been loosing as much weight as quick as I'd hoped! :(

So Week 3 went better than I had expected. I was kinda dreading the longer distances this week.
I found that I felt really good for the first 2.5km then the middle 2 ish I struggled then felt great in the last part of the runs. I sat down and looked over the runs and realised those middle kilometres that I struggled was when I was running uphill. So I am adding some leg strength exercises to my running. I know if I keep running up hill it will get easier and my legs will get stronger but it can't hurt to add some strength work, right???

So here is how week 3 went:
Week 3 recap
22.4km running
40min cross training (walking)

I ran a total of 23km
And walked for the 40min cross train (I will eventually end up in the pool)

I don't think I mentioned that my training runs in two week cycles, so I do the same runs and rest days for two weeks and then it goes up.

Week 4:
22.4km running
40min cross train (fingers crossed for a swim)

I think this week will be especially difficult as my husband and brother in law (who I normally get to watch the kids while I head out for a run) are away for the week.

BUT I have to find a way to get out for my runs as I have registered for the McLaren Vale Event at which I will be running 10km. This is the first mini goal I have in the lead up to the half marathon.

See you all next week
